The Miami Dolphins have signed defensive end Cameron Wake to a two-year extension, the team announced.

The deal is worth a reported $15 million with $10 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"We are pleased that we were able to reach an extension with Cam," Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement. "He sets the right example both on and off the field, working his way up from an undrafted college free agent to a four-time Pro Bowl selection. We are excited (about) how he will fit in this new defense and continue to be a key contributor."

The 34-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career with the Dolphins and has tallied 70 sacks in his tenure. He is second on the team's all-time sack list behind Jason Taylor.

Wake is coming off a torn Achilles suffered in Week 8 of last season, but Miami wanted to sign him to an extension for what he has already accomplished as a Dolphin and what they expect him to do going forward, according to Schefter. He had seven sacks and four forced fumbles before his injury in 2015.

Miami is reportedly ready to use Wake sparingly in the 2016 season while he fully recovers from his Achilles injury. The defensive end specializes in rushing the passer and will most likely be used in third-down packages.

The Dolphins have made efforts over the past two offseasons to bolster their pass rushing, signing Ndamukong Suh and Mario Williams to play alongside Wake.

Wake made noise early in his NFL career after bursting onto the scene with a 14-sack season in 2010 after playing in the Canadian Football League for two seasons.
