Jets sign 7th-rounder Edwards, waive WR Anderson

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) The New York Jets signed cornerback Juston Burris, offensive tackle Brandon Shell and punter Lachlan Edwards, three of their seven draft picks, and waived Joe Anderson, the wide receiver who made headlines by standing outside Houston's stadium with a sign looking for an NFL job last season.

Burris was a fourth-rounder out of North Carolina State who started three seasons for the Wolfpack. He'll likely compete for a backup spot behind projected starters Darrelle Revis and Buster Skrine, and also play on special teams.

Shell, the great nephew of Hall of Famer Art Shell, was the Jets' fifth-round pick after they traded their fourth-rounder in next year's draft to get Washington's selection in the fifth this year, No. 158 overall.

Edwards, from Sam Houston State, was the first of the Jets' draft picks to sign Thursday, a day before rookie minicamp opens. He will compete with fellow Australian Tom Hackett, who signed as an undrafted free agent after winning two Ray Guy Awards at Utah.

Anderson was signed to the Jets' practice squad in December, about six weeks after he posted a picture of himself holding a piece of cardboard box with the words ''Not homeless ... but STARVING for success'' on Instagram that quickly went viral. He was added to the reserve-futures list after the season.

He was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Southern in 2012. His 2013 season ended with an abdominal and groin injury that landed him on injured reserve. He was with Philadelphia in the 2014 offseason and spent time in the CFL.

The Jets also announced the signings of 13 undrafted free agents: Hackett, wide receiver Robby Anderson (Temple), defensive tackle Tarow Barney (Penn State), wide receiver Quenton Bundrage (Iowa State), center Kyle Friend (Temple), wide receiver Jalin Marshall (Ohio State), kicker Ross Martin (Duke), defensive end Helva Matungulu (Western Carolina), safety Doug Middleton (Appalachian State), defensive end Julien Obioha (Texas A&M), defensive end Claude Pelon (Southern California), defensive end Lawrence Thomas (Michigan State) and tight end Jason Vander Laan, who was a quarterback at Ferris State.
