Minnesota Vikings superstar Adrian Peterson donated $100,000 to flood relief efforts in his hometown of Palestine, Texas, after six people died as a result of flash floods.

Palestine was afflicted by the natural disaster from April 29-30, leaving many homeless.

"Seeing the devastation and the disaster there, and more importantly six lives were claimed due to the storm, I feel obligated being in my position to use my resources to be able to help my community come back from this," Peterson said to Matt Vensel of The Star Tribune. "It's something that has never happened before. Palestine is not known for flooding. So it really caught people by surprise."

Peterson is imploring people to donate to the Salvation Army via text message, or through the organization's website. The running back also set up a GoFundMe page for contributions to the relief effort, with a goal of $25,000.
