The Cleveland Browns aren't ruling out any internal options when it comes to who starts for them at quarterback in 2016.

Veteran passers Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown are expected to battle it out for the right to lead the Browns' offense. However, executive vice president Sashi Brown said Monday that he expects Austin Davis and Connor Shaw to fight for the role as well, with third-round pick Cody Kessler also likely in contention.

"We've got four guys here who are going to have an opportunity to try to lead this team from the quarterback position: Josh, Robert, Austin, and Connor, and Cody obviously comes now into the mix, and we feel like we want to play the guy who gives us the best chance to win," Brown said on "PFT Live," according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

With none of their own high draft picks or players with big salaries vying for the right to start, the Browns are in a position to go with the player that truly earns the job during training camp.

Griffin is the presumed favorite due to his past performances, but Brown said everyone will get a fair shot.

"There's no question with the investment in Robert, we absolutely feel like he has the opportunity to become the starting quarterback," Brown said. "There’s still a competition there, and we haven't named a starter yet, and Cody will get into that mix."

Brown said recently that rookie Kessler was "not a guy I would sleep on" to end up as the team's starter.
