Browns' Robert Griffin: Watches draft work out in his favor

Griffin's new team waited until late in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft to select a quarterback, going with USC product Cody Kessler at No. 93 overall, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

After Griffin signed a two-year, $15 million contract in late March, it was widely reported that his addition wouldn't necessarily preclude the Browns from taking a quarterback early in the draft. Instead, the team traded down in the first round multiple times, eventually selecting Baylor WR Corey Coleman at No. 15 overall. A Baylor product himself, Griffin is likely thrilled about how the draft turned out, with Cleveland further bolstering its receiving corps by selecting WR Ricardo Louis (fourth round), TE Seth Devalve (fourth), WR Jordan Payton (fifth), and WR Rashard Higgins (fifth) in the middle rounds. Though he'll presumably have to compete for the job, Griffin is the favorite to start in Week 1 for a rebuilding Browns team, as he offers greater long-term potential than either Kessler or 36-year-old Josh McCown.
