Titans' Murray gives Derrick Henry vote of confidence

Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray doesn't appear to be too concerned about his current role.

The Titans selected reigning Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry with their second-round pick and the Alabama product figures to be a staple of the offense.

Murray was acquired by the Titans in a March trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Some players would view competition with an adversarial view, but Murray endorsed the selection and is confident about the rookie's ability.

"First of all, he loved the pick," Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said of Murray via the team's official website. "And he said, 'He's going to make me better and I am going to do the same for him.' He said, 'I'm going to do whatever I can to make him a great player.'"

Murray led the NFL in rushing two seasons ago, but struggled badly in his lone campaign with the Eagles, running for 702 yards and six touchdowns on a 3.6 yards-per-carry average.

Although Henry appears to be the Titans' back of the future, Mularkey assured Murray he'll still be the lead back.

"I told DeMarco, 'Nothing has changed since we made the trade for you. You're still going to be the guy who is going to carry the load for us and I know when you need to take a break and come off the field there will be no letdown when the next running back comes in, whoever that is,'" Mularkey said. "That is our mindset and I told him that directly not long after we made that pick, that he was clear with the direction we were going to go with it."

The Titans revamped their offense this summer, and with Murray and Henry on board, the team ought to be able to wear out their opponent with a distinct, physical style in 2016.
