Colin Kaepernick won't be joining the Super Bowl champions.

The Denver Broncos traded up in the first round Thursday to draft quarterback Paxton Lynch at No. 26, and general manager John Elway subsequently told Mike Klis of 9News the team is no longer pursuing Kaepernick.

Denver had been trying to deal for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback after losing Peyton Manning to retirement and Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans.

Lynch and veteran Mark Sanchez will fight for snaps with the Broncos, while 49ers head coach Chip Kelly appears to have the opportunity to resurrect Kaepernick's career.
