The Dallas Cowboys exercised their fifth-year option on center Travis Frederick, the team announced Thursday.

Frederick will earn $1.3 million for the 2016 season and his salary's expected to escalate to $8.8 million for the 2017 campaign, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Dallas selected Frederick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and he's since become one of the NFL's premier centers. The pick was originally panned by critics, but Frederick's emerged as one of the best selections of his draft class.

Frederick was named to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2015 and is a key component of the Cowboys' dominant offensive line.
