The Washington Redskins will host free-agent cornerback Josh Norman for a visit Friday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Norman was rendered an unrestricted free agent when the Carolina Panthers rescinded the franchise tag designation Friday. Under the terms of the franchise tag, Norman would've earned $13.9 million for the upcoming season.

The 28-year-old was named a first-team All-Pro in 2015, after recording 56 tackles, four interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

Norman was expected to command a contract that would make him the NFL's highest-paid cornerback. New York Jets star Darrelle Revis is the highest-paid player at the position, with an average annual value of $14.02 million.

Washington holds just over $11 million in cap space, and the club may need to re-work some existing contracts in order to acquire Norman.

The San Francisco 49ers emerged as the other front-runner to land Norman, and boast over $52 million cap space. As a result, it should be viewed as a coup of sorts for the Redskins to get the first visit.

Norman is unequivocally the best free agent available and may end up with a gargantuan deal before the draft commences next week.
