Packers add Trevor Davis to receiving corps

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers have selected wide receiver and return specialist Trevor Davis out of California in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Davis can also help the Packers in the return game, and is a potential deep threat for Aaron Rodgers. Given the Packers' depth at receiver, though, he'll likely have to make the squad as a special teams player.

Trevor Davis Bio

Position: WR
School: California
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-1
Weight: 188 lbs.

Strengths

  • Will be best used as a return specialist and depth receiver. Had two kick-return touchdowns at Cal.
  • Fast enough to burn cornerbacks on deep routes and take advantage of space on kick returns.

Weaknesses

  • One-trick pony. Made almost all of his production in receiving game from deep routes. Didn't pose a shallow or intermediate threat. Limited route runner.
  • Slow to accelerate. Needs runway to get going and can't hit jets out of his breaks for separation. Struggles to release cleanly against quality press coverage. (NFL.com)
