Steelers release Cortez Allen

The Pittsburgh Steelers released cornerback Cortez Allen, the team announced Friday.

Allen recorded six tackles last season and was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a knee ailment in October.

The 27-year-old signed a five-year, $26-million contract with the team in September 2014, but was benched two seasons ago due to poor play in favor of Brice McCain. McCain now plays for the Tennessee Titans.

Allen was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of The Citadel.
