The Chicago Bears have selected safety Deon Bush out of Miami in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Bush plays with a physical mentality and is able to play both safety spots, but his range and athleticism may suit him better to free safety.
Deon Bush Bio
Position: S
School: Miami
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-0
Weight: 199 lbs.
Strengths
- Proves to be a fantastic open-field hitter who delivers blows with explosive power. Wraps up ball carriers with great technique.
- Uses length to disrupt passes routinely and disrupt routes at the last second.
- Excels as a blitzer and may be better suited as a hybrid linebacker than traditional safety.
- Possesses above-average straight-line speed.
Weaknesses
- Bush's aggression leads him to take awful routes to the ball, allowing wide receivers to slip past him for large gains.
- Needs to drastically improve his lateral movement in order to stick with professional wide receivers and tight ends.
- Struggles to diagnose plays at line of scrimmage and relies on recovery speed far too often.
- Complete lack of spatial awareness and football intelligence.
