With Colin Kaepernick's future in the Bay Area still a major question mark, the San Francisco 49ers will take a close look at the consensus top two passing prospects in the draft.

Cal quarterback Jared Goff is expected to visit the 49ers for their local pro day on Wednesday, and North Dakota State's Carson Wentz should be in town the next day, according to Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee.

The 49ers own the seventh overall pick in the draft and could be on the hunt for a signal-caller regardless of whether the team decides to hold on to Kaepernick.

Both Goff and Wentz appear on the surface to be fits for new 49ers head coach Chip Kelly's scheme, though perhaps for different reasons. Goff makes quick decisions from the pocket and throws with accuracy, two traits that would serve him well in Kelly's offense. Wentz is larger and much more mobile, a quality Kelly's quarterbacks have largely lacked since Kelly made the jump from Oregon to the NFL in 2013.
