Browns finally take a QB, nab USC's Cody Kessler

The Cleveland Browns selected quarterback Cody Kessler out of USC in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Friday, 93rd overall.

Not many connected Kessler to the Browns in the run-up to the draft, but apparently the team's new front-office regime saw enough in the former Trojans passer to make him the pick over Connor Cook, Cardale Jones, and Dak Prescott - three players who generated significantly more pre-draft buzz.

Kessler is an efficient, if unspectacular, player who was highly productive over the course of his college career. He possesses top-notch intangibles, something the Browns sorely need after the tumultuous (and brief) Johnny Manziel era.

Cody Kessler Bio

Strengths

  • Showcases consistent accuracy in the short and intermediate areas.
  • Kessler is an average athlete, but can move inside and outside the pocket competently.

  • Struggles against pressure at times.
  • Major drop-off in performance in 2015 from previous standout season (PFF).
