Peter Casey / US PRESSWIRE

The Baltimore Ravens have selected cornerback Maurice Canady out of Virginia in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 209th overall.

Maurice Canady Bio

Position: CB
School: Virginia
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-1
Weight: 193 lbs.

Strengths

  • Size. Above-average height for a cornerback at 6-foot-1 and a strong, thick upper body. Looks the part of an NFL corner.
  • Fluid. Smoothly transitions from coverage to support the run or the pass defense. Drives to the ball with ease and gets upfield in a hurry after turnovers.
  • Body control. Good lateral movements and balance. Can change directions with ease.
  • Processes quickly. Instinctive and shows tendency recognition that comes from film study and retention of coaching. (NFL.com)

Weaknesses

  • Downfield speed. Gets beat on deep routes, struggles to stay fast on longer routes.
  • Scared to get beat deep. Opens out of backpedal extremely early for fear of being beaten over the top. (NFL.com)
  • Questionable toughness. Doesn't like to take on power runners. Teams ran screens at Canady often in senior season to test whether he would challenge or not.
  • No interceptions in senior season. Had much better season as a junior compared to senior season.
