RG3 happy to be in Cleveland, has 'a massive chip' on his shoulder

Robert Griffin III was all business when he met the media for the first time as a member of the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday.

"I just want to play ball, man," the former second-overall pick stated as he sat down to field questions. Later, he deflected a question about whether he still believes he can be the best quarterback in football, saying he's "not going to get caught in that one again."

"I'm just blessed to have an opportunity to grow with (the coaches) and this team," Griffin said. "It's been really fun these past couple of days, getting to know my new teammates. It's truly an honor to be in this league."

Griffin said not everyone wants to play in Cleveland, but he does. He said he's excited about the talent on the roster and is willing to run whatever offensive scheme head coach Hue Jackson has in store for him.

As for the pressure of following the long string of failed Browns quarterbacks, Griffin said simply, "No pressure, no diamonds."

Griffin acknowledged the difficulties he endured with the Washington Redskins, including watching the entire 2015 season from the bench, and seemed to admit some blame for how things ended.

"I've grown through the whole process," Griffin said. "... I could have done things differently, but can't focus on it."

He continued, "I'm trying not to let any baggage hold me down from the past, but I do have a massive chip on my shoulder. This team has a massive chip on its shoulder."

Griffin said he's unsure what the Browns' draft plan will be. The team is widely expected to draft a quarterback to compete with Griffin (and eventually succeed him) with the second-overall pick.

"That's up to higher management that's way over my pay grade," Griffin said.
