Browns' Jackson, teammates give RG3 vote of confidence

There was some skepticism when the Cleveland Browns signed Robert Griffin III to a two-year, $15-million contract, but head coach Hue Jackson is confident in their new quarterback, and so are a few of Griffin's teammates.

Griffin was named Offensive Rookie of the Year during his initial campaign with the Washington Redskins. However, things turned sour with his myriad injuries, clashes with two head coaches, and an overall lack of accountability.

After a turbulent exit from the nation's capital, Griffin is evidently trying to make a strong impression on his new club.

"He showed me he's grown, he's learned. He want(s) to grow and become better," Jackson said of Griffin during his press conference Wednesday.

Browns Pro Bowl tight end Gary Barnidge said Griffin gave him a phone call once he was signed by the club, attempting to develop a rapport before the 2016 season.

"You can tell he wants to be a leader," Barnidge said of Griffin.

Barnidge wasn't the only prominent member of the Browns' offense swayed by Griffin's initiative, as guard/tackle Joel Bitonio seemed invigorated by the signing.

"I was excited. He seems like a guy that's going to be ready to work," Bitonio said of Griffin via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Bitonio added that Griffin and fellow quarterback Josh McCown are working well in tandem, although both players are trying to command the team as they vie for the starting role.

While it's far too early to speculate whether Griffin will beat McCown for the starting job, the 26-year-old's comeback campaign seems to be off to a promising beginning.
