Report: Lions, Stafford talking extension

The Detroit Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford have started to talk about a contract extension, according to mlive.com.
From Lions president Tom Lewand:
"Matthew Stafford is our quarterback, and we hope is our quarterback for a long time. The reason to explore a contract extension with Matthew is to fulfill that goal of having him be our quarterback for a long time."
Stafford is due to make a base salary of $12 million in 2013, $11 million in 2014 and $15 million in 2015, but his cap hit next season stands at $20.3 million.
Last season, he completed 435 passes on 727 attempts for 4,967 yards and 20 touchdowns.
