Panthers' Thomas Davis tears ACL again

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Tuesday, the same injury that ended his 2009 season.

Davis is expected to undergo surgery in the near future and could miss the entire 2010 season.

The injury occurred in individual drills during an organized team activity. Davis fell while in a backpedal and grabbed his knee, though he was initially able to walk off the field under his own power.

The tear was then revealed following an examination of the knee.

Davis suffered his first ACL injury early in the fourth quarter of a November 8 loss at New Orleans when his leg was caught in the Superdome turf while trying to pursue Saints running back Pierre Thomas.

The 2009 season was not kind to the fifth-year Georgia product, who endured a sprained medial collateral ligament in training camp but was able to recover in time for the season opener. Davis compiled 61 tackles, 1 1/2 sacks and two interceptions last season in seven contests.

In his career, Davis has totaled 388 stops, 11 sacks and three interceptions in 69 games with the Panthers.
