Report: Saints to hire Rob Ryan

The New Orleans Saints reportedly plan to hire Rob Ryan as their new defensive coordinator, according to ESPN.

Ryan, who worked as a coordinator for the Cowboys until his firing in January, had confidently commented after his release "I'll be out of work for like five minutes."

It was originally believed that the Rams would hire Ryan after visiting with him twice, but St. Louis opted not to.

Ryan has worked as a defensive coordinator with the Cowboys, Browns and Raiders, failing to make the playoffs in nine total seasons with those three teams. He also served as a linebackers coach with the Patriots and a defensive backs coach with the Cardinals.

Dallas' defence finished 19th in the NFL this season in yards allowed per game (355.4) and 24th in points allowed per game with 25. The 5687 total yards allowed in 2012 were also the most in Cowboys history.
