Report: Saints can talk to Payton about new contract

The New Orleans Saints and suspended head coach Sean Payton are reportedly allowed to negotiate a new contract even though Payton and the organization aren't supposed to have contact while the coach serves his suspension for his involvement in the Saints bounty scandal.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune first reported that the NFL had granted the Saints permission on Monday evening, shortly after New Orleans beat Philadelphia in the Monday Nighter.
A prior agreement on an extension between the Saints and Payton was voided by the NFL because the league reportedly didn't approve of a clause that would have allowed Payton to nix the deal if general manager Mickey Loomis was fired, suspended or left the organization.
