Rams RB Jackson held out due to injury, not penalty

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson landed himself a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the second quarter of Sunday's 31-28 victory over the Washington Redskins, and he did not return after that.
Despite early reports that Jackson had been benched for his penalty, head coach Jeff Fisher cleared the air in his postgame press conference. Fisher said that Jackson suffered a groin injury in the second quarter, and they did not want to risk further injury by putting him back in.
Through two weeks, Jackson has racked up 111 rush yards on 30 carries and 31 receiving yards. The 29-year-old back is still searching for his first touchdown.
The Rams visit the Chicago Bears in Week 3; Jackson's status is uncertain.
