Fans sue Real Madrid president Perez over Copa del Rey disqualification

Two Real Madrid supporters filed a lawsuit against club president Florentino Perez on Tuesday, according to AS' Santi Giminez, claiming they suffered morally and financially following Los Blancos' disqualification from the Copa del Rey in December.

Madrid famously fielded midfielder Denis Cheryshev in the second leg of the round-of-32 tie against Cadiz, despite the fact that he'd been ruled ineligible to play due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Rafa Benitez, then manager of Madrid, pleaded ignorance, but it didn't stop Cadiz from filing a complaint.

The Spanish football federation swiftly kicked the capital club out of the competition. Subsequent appeals failed to overturn the decision.

The humiliation hasn't yet faded for fans Raul Gimenez Guillem and Susana Castano Caba, however. The aggrieved supporters claim they have been "taunted in cafes and our place of work, which has led to bouts of anguish and helplessness."

On Feb. 1, Cheryshev joined Valencia on loan until the end of the season.
