The Houston Texans have selected wide receiver Will Fuller out of Notre Dame with the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday.

Initially slated to be on the clock at No. 22, Houston opted to trade up one spot with the Washington Redskins to land their target.

Fuller's top-end speed will be a strong complement to the abilities of All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins on the opposite side of the field.

Though he's struggled with drops, Fuller is easily one of the most explosive playmakers in this draft.

Will Fuller Bio

Position: WR
School: Notre Dame
College Experience: Junior
Height: 6-0
Weight: 186 lbs.

Strengths

  • Sharp cutter. Sells deep routes well before changing directions seamlessly to create separation from defenders.
  • Incredible speed allows him to make plays downfield and take advantage of cushion given by corners.
  • Averaged more than 20 yards per catch in 2015.
  • Works back to the ball well when quarterback is in trouble.
  • Shows good body control while attacking the ball in the air and near the sideline.
  • Doesn't shy away from blocking assignments despite being undersized.

Weaknesses

  • Has a tendency to body catch, leading to drops.
  • Isn't very aggressive with the ball in his hands and won't break many tackles or pick up a ton of yards after the catch.
  • Lacks ideal size for an NFL wideout. Could get rerouted in the pros.
  • Majority of routes were vertical and will need to polish his underneath patterns to become more versatile.
