Doyle 'back jogging in a few weeks' after undergoing surgery on leg gash

Ireland striker Kevin Doyle allayed fears that he suffered a major injury during Friday's friendly against Switzerland, posting on Twitter that he will be "back jogging" in a few weeks.

Doyle sustained a severe gash to his leg after a tackle from Switzerland defender Timm Klose. The Colorado Rapids frontman immediately underwent surgery, and even though he will miss his country's exhibition match against Slovakia on Tuesday, the 30-year-old appears to have avoided a long stint on the sidelines.

Ireland captain Robbie Keane, who missed Friday's contest due to injury, is also a scratch for Slovakia's visit.

"It's something he thought was a kick for a start, he thought it would clear up in a couple of days," manager Martin O'Neill told reporters according to The BBC. "I am hoping that's not a major concern at the moment and I genuinely don't think it is, so I don't want to start a big of scaremongering."
