Agent: 31 teams will be watching Tyrod Taylor as extension talks stall

Tyrod Taylor outperformed tepid expectations in 2015, and his agent, Adisa Bakari, wants to ensure his client is rewarded appropriately.

Taylor beat EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel for the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback role, and completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 20 touchdowns against six interceptions. The 26-year-old also rushed for 568 yards and four touchdowns in one of the best seasons by a Bills quarterback in recent memory.

Entering the 2016 season, Taylor will be paid a base salary of $1 million with a $133,334 signing bonus, relatively paltry totals for a player of his caliber. As a result, Bakari is adamant the Bills need to extend Taylor or else the NFL's 31 other teams will take notice and could pounce next summer.

"It's the Bills' prerogative to do what they want to do as it relates to Tyrod Taylor or any other Bills player," Bakari said, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. "Fortunately, there are 31 other teams that have watched and will be watching Tyrod. And the fact of the matter is what Tyrod was able to do as a first-time starter in 2015 was give the Bills the best quarterback play they've had since Jim Kelly.

"If that isn't enough to warrant an extension, I don't know what will be."

Taylor was named a Pro Bowl alternate in his first year with the Bills, and if he can repeat his strong performance next season, he'll be one of the best values relative to impact in the NFL. As of Monday night, the Bills possess just $7 million in cap space for the 2016 season, and it's possible the team's reticence to sign Taylor to an extension is a result of poor cap management.
