The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with free-agent linebacker James Laurinaitis, the player confirmed Wednesday.

NFL Network's Rand Getlin was the first to report the story.

Laurinaitis spent seven seasons with the St. Louis Rams before being released in February after the team had moved to Los Angeles.

The former second-round pick is the Rams' all-time leader with 654 career tackles and was the franchise's longest-tenured player before becoming a cap casualty.

In New Orleans, Laurinaitis may have to move to a position other than middle linebacker, since the Saints have sophomore Stephone Anthony - who started all 16 games in the middle after being selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Saints reportedly also signed linebacker Nate Stupar earlier Wednesday.
