The Green Bay Packers are once again using free agency first and foremost as a way to take care of their own.

After briefly testing the open market, linebacker Nick Perry has agreed to a one-year, $5-million deal to return to Green Bay, reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, citing two league sources.

Perry became a free agent because the Packers declined the fifth-year option on his rookie deal, but the two sides were evidently able to reach an agreement at a less substantial cost.

The 25-year-old has been a valuable rotational edge presence since joining Green Bay as a first-round pick in 2012. He's racked up 12.5 sacks and 99 tackles over 46 games and 16 starts.
