Report: Wizards to waive Gary Neal

The Washington Wizards are in the process of waiving guard Gary Neal, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.

The 31-year-old played 40 games for the Wizards after joining them on a one-year, $2.1-million contract last summer, but he's been sidelined since early February with a sore leg.

Neal's injury, coupled with Bradley Beal's sprained pelvis, has put pressure on Washington to acquire another shooter, Stein notes.

Evidently, the Wizards saw fit to replace Neal with a healthy body as they continue their push for a playoff bid. Tuesday's overtime loss to the Portland Trail Blazers pushed Washington 2.5 games back of the Chicago Bulls for the final playoff spot in the East.

Neal put up 9.8 points while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep in 20.2 minutes per game this season. Since he was waived after March 1, Neal won't be playoff eligible if he's picked up by a playoff-bound team.
