Stefan Savic's fight for a place in Atletico Madrid's starting XI may have to be put on hold.

On Wednesday, despite playing all 90 minutes of Atleti's scoreless draw at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League's Round of 16, Savic exited the pitch with discomfort in his right thigh that was subsequently confirmed as an injury to his right calf muscle.

Specifically, Savic suffered an injury to his right medial gastrocnemius.

The ailment marks Savic's second in February, as he suffered a muscle injury to his right thigh during a training session. The Montenegrin centre-back joined Atleti from Fiorentina last year and finds himself competing with Jose Maria Gimenez for a starting spot in the Spanish club's defensive unit, which is among Europe's best.
