Houston places bid to host 2017 Pro Bowl

The city of Houston placed a bid to host the 2017 Pro Bowl on Thursday.

The metropolis will host next year's Super Bowl and is looking to be recognized as a prominent venue in NFL circles.

"I know the NFL is trying to consolidate the Super Bowl experience with the Pro Bowl," Houston mayor Sylvester Turner told ESPN's Tania Ganguli. "They would like them to be held in the same city. It just makes it much easier for everyone who is traveling to the Super Bowl. There's a possibility there. It would be ideal if it could happen."

Turner was largely in favor of hosting the league's all-star game due to an anticipated revenue influx.

"When Arizona had the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl, their economic benefit was like $720 million," Turner said. "When New Orleans had the Super Bowl, their economic benefit was $480 million; we're anticipating an economic benefit of more than $500 million."

It's rare to host the Pro Bowl outside of Hawaii, but the NFL proved to be more flexible in recent years, moving the draft outside of New York to Chicago last spring.
