Scoggins calls himself flyweight champion: 'There's no Demetrious Johnson or anyone else'

A win over Ray Borg gave Justin Scoggins a major confidence boost.

Heading into UFC Fight Night 82 on Saturday, Scoggins was one of the bigger underdogs on the card. His opponent, Borg, had won three straight fights and Scoggins was considered the next step on his path to the top 10.

Instead, Scoggins won an emphatic unanimous decision and afterwards, he was not shy about stating where he belongs in the rankings.

"To me, I'm the champion of this division. There's no Demetrious Johnson or anyone else," Scoggins told MMAjunkie.com. "To me, Justin Scoggins is the champion, and I'm proving myself with every fight. All there is now is to get the gold belt."

Johnson is the current flyweight champion, the only one to hold that title in the division's three-year history. He is undefeated in 10 fights at 125 pounds, a stark contrast to Scoggins' 4-2 UFC record.

Whether it's confidence or delusion, Scoggins has set the bar high for himself in the coming year and he's ready to fight Johnson or whoever is put in front of him.

"I don't care who it is; my one goal is to be the world champion in 2016," Scoggins said. "They can literally put me against anyone in this division, and I will fight them and beat them, and it's going to happen this year, and I'm going to have that gold belt around my waist."
