Former Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, who suffered severe head injuries during a 2013 skiing accident, is reportedly not doing well in his recovery.

"I have news and unfortunately it is not good," former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo told reporters Thursday. "Life is strange. He was a fantastic driver and only had one accident with Ferrari in 1999."

Schumacher is reportedly receiving intensive treatment in his Switzerland home to help in his recovery from head injuries sustained during the accident.

A spokesperson for the injured driver wouldn't confirm or deny Di Montezemolo's comments, according to BBC Sports' Richard Conway.

According to friend Philippe Streiff in a 2014 report, Schumacher was paralyzed and suffered from memory and speech problems after the accident, although a spokesperson at the time said Streiff's comments were "his opinions."

Prior to his accident, Schumacher was a seven-time F1 world champion, and is arguably considered to be the greatest driver in the sport's history.
