White expects quick recovery for Velasquez

For once, fight fans have a reason to be excited about Cain Velasquez's health.

UFC president Dana White was optimistic about Velasquez's latest injury, which knocked him out of a title fight with Fabricio Werdum.

"Cain has got problems with a disc in his back, and he's actually going to have surgery," White said on "Opie with Jim Norton," according to Mike Bohn of MMAjunkie.com. "The good part is it's not going to be that long. He's going to have the surgery and will probably need four weeks to recover. So that's good news."

Velasquez lost the UFC heavyweight belt to Werdum last June, a title he held twice for a total of 1,281 days. Unfortunately, injuries to the No. 1-ranked heavyweight's shoulder and knee limited him to just four defenses during those reigns.

No update was given on the status of Werdum, who's also sidelined with a back injury.
