Michigan State's "Mean Green" jerseys will not make another appearance this year.

The eccentric fluorescent lime green uniforms, which caught many viewers off guard as they tuned in to watch Michigan State host Maryland on Saturday, were intended to be a one-off idea, and they'll remain that way.

The concept for the jerseys came from Nike, which chose the Spartans to be part of its Hyper Elite Disruption line this season.

"It's an honor," Michigan State director of athletic equipment Dave Pruder told Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press regarding Nike's decision to include the Spartans in the line. "And they don't do this for every school.

"Any time you do something outside the box, there will be people who don’t like it," Pruder added.

While the jerseys weren't a hit with everyone, they did appeal to the people that matter to the program: recruits.

"I know they're crazy, but 17-year-olds like them," coach Tom Izzo said about the jerseys after Saturday's game. "And right now, I like 17-year-olds more than 80-year-olds."
