Rangers' Double-A team aims to build water park in stands

Imagine dozing off on a swim tube as your body is carried away effortlessly down a lazy river in the hot sun.

Suddenly, a loud crack of the bat wakes you up just in time to allow you to catch a deep home run over the center-field wall while still relaxing on the water.

That's exactly the type of scenario the Texas Rangers' Double-A Frisco RoughRiders are envisioning for their fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark. After winning Ballpark Digest's Best Ballpark Renovation (Under $6-million) award in 2015, the RoughRiders' ownership crew is now planning to replace a pool in the stands in center field with an entire lazy river.

The upgrades are proposed to be paid for with a surplus from previous operating budgets and possible funding from the city of Frisco.

"The city, as you know, they're great to work with, great partnership, very committed to keeping the ballpark fresh and modern," RoughRiders executive vice president and general manager told Valerie Wigglesworth of the Dallas Morning News. "It's going to be a really cool thing hopefully if we can get that pool project to come to fruition here at the ballpark."

Along with the lazy river, the club also plans to add 8-foot waterfalls that are capable of displaying projections.

No word yet on when water parks will hit the majors, but let's hope it's soon.
