Sixth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych outlasted Roberto Bautista Agut in five sets to advance to the Aussie Open quarterfinals for the sixth year on the bounce, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

The three-hour, 18-minute match swung like a pendulum, as the lanky Berdych and the 24th-seeded Spaniard traded sets until the man that's made two consecutive Melbourne semifinals snatched the final stanza in 33 minutes.

Not quite at his best, Berdych committed 57 unforced errors and won 73 percent of his first serve points, while each player broke the other four times during the match.

Berdych will now prepare for a quarterfinals duel with third-seeded Roger Federer following the Swiss legend's comprehensive straight-sets victory over Belgian David Goffin.

The two players have faced each other 21 times, with Federer winning 15 of those, the last three in straight sets.
