PSV Eindhoven signs 19-year-old Peruvian forward Luiz Beto da Silva

Luiz Beto da Silva, the teenage phenom turning heads in his native country of Peru, is crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

PSV Eindhoven signed Da Silva on a free transfer Sunday after his contract at Sporting Cristal, one of the biggest clubs in Peru, expired. The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the Philips Stadion until the summer of 2018 and will see him join PSV's under-21 squad.

Da Silva, born in Peru and possessing Brazilian roots, started his youth career at Brazilian club Gremio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense and joined Sporting Cristal in 2013. He went on to make 21 appearances and score six goals in the 2015 Torneo Descentralizado.

Da Silva follows in the footsteps of Jefferson Farfan, who joined PSV from Alianza Lima in 2004 and is one of the most talented products of Peruvian football.

"He is a role model to me," said Da Silva of Farfan. "He is a great player and has become a household name in Eindhoven. I'm delighted to sign for a big club like PSV."

Da Silva, PSV's third Peruvian player following Reimond Manco and Farfan, will wear the name "Da Silva" on the back of his shirt. He'll join PSV's under-21 team for training camp on Monday.
