Ben Scrivens to make Canadiens debut Tuesday

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Ben Scrivens will make his debut with Montreal on Tuesday in a matchup with the Florida Panthers that could very well determine if the Canadiens enter the Winter Classic as leaders of the Atlantic Division.

Coach Michel Therrien said Scrivens would indeed make the start following Monday's shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, which saw the Canadiens recapture first place over the red-hot Panthers.

Scrivens was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers for Zack Kassian in a deal announced Monday just after the holiday transaction freeze was lifted. He's been buried in the AHL this season behind behind Oilers goaltenders Cam Talbot and Anders Nilsson.

His start likely means that Mike Condon will go from ECHL rink to NFL stadium and start the Winter Classic versus the Boston Bruins.
