Halak outduels Lundqvist in Islanders' shootout win

After 65 minutes of play and 71 shots on goal in Wednesday's battle between the New York Islanders and New York Rangers, both teams only had one goal to their name following incredible performances from the opposing goaltenders.

Jaroslav Halak made 33 saves on the night, and three more in the shootout as the Islanders won the first-ever shootout played at Barclays Center in their 2-1 victory. Kyle Okposo spoiled an equally impressive 36-save performance from Henrik Lundqvist with the night's lone shootout tally.

The Islanders nearly let the game slip through their hands after being charged for too many men early in overtime. Halak managed to make five huge saves during the 4-on-3 penalty kill to help keep his team alive.

Captain John Tavares scored his 12th goal of the season during a second-period power play, while Viktor Stalberg netted his third of the year for the Rangers six minutes later.

It's the first time the Islanders have strung together three consecutive wins since October. They will look to extend their current streak to four games when they host the St. Louis Blues on Friday.
