Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington has been diagnosed with a sprained toe after undergoing an MRI on Monday.

Ellington is still considered day to day, as the team initially ruled him before the MRI, but he is reportedly in danger of missing Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The fact Ellington has avoided significant injury will be a relief to the Cardinals, who have reportedly lost starter Chris Johnson for six-to-eight weeks with a fractured tibia.

If Ellington does miss Sunday's game, rookie David Johnson will likely move into the starting role.

Ellington has 247 yards on 36 carries and three touchdowns this season.
