Sharks' Braun day to day, out vs. Blackhawks

After San Jose Sharks defenseman Justin Braun was absent from Wednesday's morning skate, head coach Peter DeBoer announced Braun won't play against the Chicago Blackhawks due to an upper-body injury suffered during their recent road trip.

He is considered day to day.

"Brauny's been one of our unsung heroes through the first quarter of the season," DeBoer said, according to Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News. "He's played some outstanding hockey."

Braun makes up half the Sharks' key shutdown defensive pairing alongside Olympian Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The team just reeled off a six-game win streak on the road.

The 28-year-old has not missed a game this season. He recorded an assist and was a plus-2 in Sunday's win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

DeBoer added this would be an opportunity for young blueliners Mirco Mueller and Matt Tennyson to "establish themselves" in larger roles.
