Red Wings spoil Ryan's magnificent comeback effort

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports / USA TODAY Sports

Bobby Ryan carried his club to the extra period, but the Detroit Red Wings still edged the Ottawa Senators 4-3 on Monday.

With under three minutes remaining in the third period and the Senators down a goal, Ryan took it upon himself to get his team back in it. The crafty 28-year-old lifted the stick of Luke Glendening and deked goaltender Jimmy Howard with a marvelous individual effort, knotting the game at 3-3.

The goal sent the Senators beyond regulation for the ninth time this season. However, the magic ran out there, as Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar took advantage of some sloppy defense and a great pass from Gustav Nyquist.

The win stopped a two-game slide for the Red Wings. Meanwhile, with the loss, the Senators have dropped four of their last five.
