Report: Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic to miss 3 weeks with hamstring injury

Reuters

Horribly out of form and now nursing a hamstring injury, Branislav Ivanovic's underwhelming 2015 season has been emblematic of Chelsea's Premier League start.

Ivanovic faces three weeks on the sidelines following a hamstring concern picked up in Serbia's 2-0 win over Albania Thursday, according to Mark Critchley of The Independent.

Arguably the world's best right-back last year during Chelsea's double-winning campaign, the 31-year-old's fall from grace this season has mirrored that of the 16th-place Blues.

Ivanovic's injury should see summer signing Baba Rahman assume the left-back duties, allowing Spanish international Cesar Azpilicueta to shift to his natural position at right-back.

Rahman, a 21-year-old Ghanaian, has started only two matches for Jose Mourinho's squad - a 4-1 Champions League victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv and a League Cup win against Walsall. Ivanovic's injury will give the former Augsburg defender an opportunity to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge, which may be a silver lining for a club desperate for a turn of form.
