Blue Jays sound off on umpire Vic Carapazza's strike zone
After going down 0-2 in the American League Division Series against the Texas Rangers on Friday, members of the Toronto Blue Jays couldn't help but single out one man who made their night more difficult - home plate umpire Vic Carapazza.
"I think every umpire kind of has their strike zone and their tendencies," said catcher Russell Martin - who struck out twice in the Blue Jays' Game 2 loss. "They really just go out there and try to call what they see. And sometimes they might have an off day.
"I'm sure if he goes back and looks at the tape, I'm sure he's gonna realize it wasn't his best day out there."
The 10-year MLB veteran further voiced his frustration, adding: "If it was a regular-season game, there's a pretty good chance I’m getting thrown out of that game."
Even less forgiving towards Carapazza was outfielder Kevin Pillar - who finished 1-for-6 with three strikeouts for the afternoon.
"Hitting's extremely difficult as is," he told reporters. "When the plate starts expanding, it makes it even more difficult."
The Blue Jays can't be too upset, though, as the Rangers were just as frustrated with Carapazza's strike calls throughout the game. Toronto now needs to win three straight to remain alive in the postseason.
