Texans release Mike Mohamed with injury settlement

The Houston Texans have parted ways with linebacker Mike Mohamed, releasing him from injured reserve with an injury settlement, the team announced Tuesday.

Mohamed was released at his own request, with a three-week settlement of $116,470.

The linebacker was placed on injured reserve by the Texans early in September with a calf injury, but Mohamed decided to reach the settlement rather than miss the entire season.

"I want to play this season," Mohamed said. "It won't be here, but I want to play somewhere and get back on the field. I'm almost back from the injury, so it's kind of frustrating to go on injured reserve, but I understand that they didn't feel like they could wait."

The move allows Mohamed to join another NFL team after three weeks, or to rejoin the Texans by Week 14, per league rules.
