Report: Dolphins reached out to Jim Schwartz about DC job

Raj Mehta / USA TODAY Sports

While deciding how to proceed at defensive coordinator, the Miami Dolphins reached out to former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

However, Schwartz passed on the opportunity, deciding to stay put in his current job as an NFL officiating consultant, Rapoport reports.

Schwartz guided the Lions to a 29-51 record during his five seasons with the team. He served as defensive coordinator of Tennessee Titans from 2001-08, and as defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills last season.

The Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin on Monday, and there are rumors that defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle could be shown the door as well.
