FC Dallas clinch playoff spot in Texas derby win over Houston Dynamo

Reuters

The Hoops are heading to the playoffs.

FC Dallas secured its spot in the MLS postseason with a 4-1 derby day win over Texas rival Houston Dynamo at home in Toyota Stadium.

Dallas opened the scoring in the match, with Mauro Diaz notching a goal from the penalty spot, but Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark found an equalizer later in the first half to keep the two teams level at 1-1 at half time.

But a second-half brace scored by David Texeira sandwiched around a goal scored by Kellyn Acosta was enough to separate the two Texan outfits as FC Dallas cruised to a playoff berth with four games to spare.

Dallas will now turn its attention to the fight for the MLS Supporters' Shield. With 50 points to the team's name, Dallas can climb even higher in the standings to compete for the league's top in-season prize.
