Dolphins' Grimes will not return vs. Jets with knee injury

Andrew Innerarity / USA TODAY Sports

Miami Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes will not return Sunday against the New York Jets after suffering a knee injury in the first quarter.

Grimes limped to the sidelines after missing an open-field tackle in pursuit of Jets receiver Brandon Marshall.

The 32-year-old has been the Dolphins' top cover corner for the last three seasons after signing as a free agent in 2013. His loss leaves the defense severely outmatched against a strong Jets receiving corps.

Brice McCain stepped into the starting spot opposite Jamar Taylor in Grimes' absence.
