Panthers release David Booth from tryout

The Florida Panthers have cut ties with veteran forward David Booth.

The Panthers released Booth from his professional tryout contract Wednesday.

"It's unfortunate," Booth told George Richards of The Miami Herald. "I feel I'm still a great player. This place felt comfortable and like a place I could do some of the things I've done before. But this is a business and sometimes you're just a number."

Florida invited the 30-year-old winger to Panthers camp earlier this month. As for the next step in his career, he's not entirely sure where he'll go next.

"We'll see what happens," he said. "I don't know what the next step will be. I want to keep playing hockey but I believe I'm better than (playing in the AHL). It's just a matter of getting my timing down, getting everything back."

Booth collected 13 points in 59 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season.

He has registered 120 goals and 111 assists in 502 career games with the Panthers, Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks.
